RAVEN MOON Dream Box (All my Dream Boxes are now at Riverside Studios on Commercial Row in Truckee, CA)
5.” x 5” x 2.5” Acrylic on Wooden Box
Adorned with Swarovski crystals, handpainted wooden butterflies, and an origami surprise inside!
I painted this box in honor of a Haida legend, “How Raven Brought Light into the World.” In the beginning, the world was completely dark because an old man had a box, (which contained another box, and another, and another). The smallest box within these boxes held all the light in the universe. There were reasons the old man wanted to hide the light in the first place (the story is complicated). In the end, Raven tricked the man to open all the boxes. When he opened the box sheltering the light, Raven grabbed the light and spread it around the world. Eagle, however, tried to steal it from him, causing Raven to drop bits of light into the sky, which became the moon and stars—gifts to dreamers everywhere.
